🤖 How to Work With the Algorithm
The YouTube algorithm is a viewer-behavior prediction engine: it recommends content that keeps people on the platform. Every term in this category describes one of the signals it watches — session time, click-through rate, watch time, retention, return viewers. There are no "secret algorithm hacks", only alignment with viewer behavior.
Work the loop in this order:
- Retention first — a video that holds 60%+ of viewers signals quality to every downstream system (search, suggested, Shorts feed).
- Then packaging (CTR) — a high-retention video with a weak title or thumbnail never gets tested at scale.
- Then session time — ending videos with a next-watch link (playlist, cards) trains the recommender to treat your channel as a session.
Rule of thumb: any "algorithm strategy" that expects you to trick viewers is wrong. The algorithm is a mirror — improve the reflection.
